Daniel E. Raines of Macon Illinois was initially found guilty of three counts of first degree murder, for the shooting death of a Vermilion County deputy sheriff after escaping from his restraints from the back seat of a police cruiser. He started his crime career as a petty thief and burglar around Montgomery Indiana, later getting arrested for various crimes such as disorderly conduct, DUI charges, unlawful restraint and aggravated battery causing bodily harm. His three counts of murder were eventually reduced to two as they stand today.
