Q and A with
Bobby Joe Long
interview November 09

Do you enjoy reading? If so, do you have a favorite book?
Yeah, I read, when the mood hits. About the first 5 years I was caged, I read any + everything I could get my hands on. As I've aged, I've found I have very little inclination to read something I don't find interesting, and well written. Unfortunately, so much of what's out there doesn't meet my criteria. My favorite would be the "Travis McGee" series of 21 books spanning 1963 thru about 1986 by John Macdonald, which I recently read in chronological order for the 4th or 5th time since I've been caged.

Do you enjoy listening to music?
Yeah, I've always been a music-lover. I guess my tastes in music is pretty eclectic. All I'm "allowed" here, is an am/fm only radio. No tapes or cd's. So my access is severely limited. More country stations than anything. Daytimes, I usually have talk radio on, sports or political talk. Some of my favorite music: 'Don't Give Up' by Peter Gabriel & Kate Bush, 'Rusty Cage' by Soungarden, 'Bridge Of Sighs' by Robin Trower, Led Zeppelins first album.

Do you have any favorite movies?
I am a movie-FREAK! Always have been. If I had to pick one... Aliens? The 2nd one! But there's so many. The Wild Bunch, Darker Than Amber, Heat, Last Of The Mohicans, Wild Orchid, Braveheart.

What's your favorite food?
Hmmm, that's a tough one to narrow down. Maybeeee...a good Surf + Turf, with prime new york strip, and garlic fried shrimp...big salad with all kinds of meat and cheese in it, drowned in vinegar and oil dressing. Good garlic bread with garlic dripping off it! And a 6 pack of Dos Equis to wash it down? That'd work!

What's your favorite flavor of ice cream?
Banana splits are my favorite.

What do you like in the opposite sex?
Hmmm...I could write a book. Honesty...loyalty...thoughtful. E-Z on the eyes...sweeeet! That'd purdy much cover it, I think. A woman who could "talk" with her eyes, - and like me- is not a yapper. There. Simple, huh?

I read somewhere that you're from West Virginia?
Yes, I was born there, but my mom took off-for good reason- to Miami when I was very young. So I consider myself a Miami/South Florida boy. What time I've spent in West Virginia, I was NOT impressed.

What would your dream job be?
Well, I had a really good one. My last job, I was a dive instructor on a Fla. based cruise ship. Didn't make much money, but had a lotta fun. Pretty tough to beat. Living on a floating palace, gourmet meals day + night, nice people having a good time. Not to bad, huh?

If you could fight anyone, alive or dead, who would you fight?
I have no interest in fighting anyone. I grew up boxing in The Boys Club, then the Army, then Golden Gloves. Had fights all through growing up. I just have no interest in fighting, none.
